Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements – Visas

British citizens do not require a visa before their arrival in the UAE. British citizens will be given a 30 day visa on arrival, which may be extended for a further 30 days in the Emirate in which you arrived.

If you wish to stay in the UAE for longer than 60 days, you can apply for the appropriate visa at the nearest UAE Embassy or Consulate before travelling.

Entry Requirements – Passport validity

If you are visiting the UAE your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your intended stay. If you hold a residence permit, your passport must be valid for at least three months in order to travel into and out of the country.

Entry Requirements – Exit Requirements

Visitors must have legal status in the UAE when they depart. If you are subject to a travel ban, involved in legal proceedings, have unpaid debt or are a child subject to a custody dispute, you may be prevented from leaving the country.

Local Laws and Customs

Hobbies that involve cameras and binoculars, such as bird watching and plane spotting, may be misunderstood – particularly near military sites, government buildings and airports.

Do not eat, drink or smoke in public view during the daytime (including in your car). This is considered highly disrespectful. It is also against the law and failure to comply could result in arrest.

The majority of eating and drinking establishments will be closed during daylight hours, but you can find some coffee houses with screens that are intended to allow people to eat during the daytime away from public view.

Be careful about your dress during Ramadan. Skimpy clothes should not be worn at any time in the UAE, but during Ramadan the standards may be policed even more carefully than usual.
